Dorothy Eileen Zoller

Dorothy Eileen Zoller, 94, passed away on April 30, 2013 in Gainesville, Florida. She was born on February 10, 1919 in Detroit, Michigan to Harry and Gladys Malvern. Following graduation, she worked as an administrative assistant for Habercorn Industries. She attended the Zoller Gospel Tabernacle in Detroit, where she and her sister, the late Marian Althea Malvern, sang duets. There, she met her husband, the late Rev. John Zoller, who was serving as assistant pastor to his father, John Edward Zoller. Rev. Zoller then accepted a pastoral call from the Hazelton-ShilohMethodistChurch, Hazelton, Ind. They married January 9, 1943. Following marriage, she assisted her husband in his ministry to the Hazelton-ShilohMethodistChurch where he was assigned through 1944. Other churches to which they were assigned were the Parsippany Methodist Church, Parsippany, N.J. (1945-1946); GraceCommunityMethodistChurch, Oakland, CA (1946-1949). In 1949 Rev. Zoller enlisted in the Navy Chaplains Corp. Over the years, Mrs. Zoller accompanied him to pastoral duty stations, including Midway Island where she hosted a radio program called "Something Special" and had the opportunity to interview the late James Cagney when he was there filming "Mister Roberts". When Rev. Zoller retired from the Navy, Mrs. Zoller assisted her husband in the associate pastor ship of the Carteret Street United Methodist Church in Beaufort, SC, from 1979-81, until Rev. Zoller became the pastor of Port Royal United Methodist Church in 1981, where he served until his death on May 12, 1989. Judy Attaway, a deacon in the CarteretStreetUnitedMethodistChurch moved in with the Zollers in late 1979 to provide housekeeping services and became a caretaker to Mrs. Zoller following her first stroke. Although she successfully completed rehabilitation, she subsequently suffered 3 additional strokes. In November 2007, Mrs. Attaway fell while hospitalized for pneumonia, necessitating their moving to Gainesville, FL in January 2008 to be closer to Mrs. Zoller's daughter, Larke A. Nunn. Once Mrs. Attaway had completed rehabilitation for a broken hip, she and Mrs. Zoller moved to a home in TurkeyCreekForest, a senior's subdivision in Gainesville. In October 2011, Mrs. Zoller moved in with her daughter and son-in-law. All are members of Grace Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Zoller's ashes will be buried in the Memorial Garden of Grace Presbyterian Church on May 12, 2013. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Larke and Ronald Nunn and her lifelong friend, Judith S. Attaway.
