Joyce Ducas, PhD Joyce Ducas of Orlando, FL (formerly Tallahassee and New York City), 68, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 19, 2018 due to complications from surgery. She was born in Brooklyn, NY. Joyce's professional life as a highly respected psychologist spanned decades, during which she counseled patients in her private practice with wisdom, and provided guidance to attorneys, judges and professionals. She leaves a legacy as an insightful, dedicated and caring therapist who has helped her patients overcome obstacles and lead happier, more fulfilling lives. A funny, spirited, quick-witted and brilliant woman, Joyce touched the lives of everyone she knew. She was the person friends and family turned to for thoughtful, sage advice. There was no question where she stood on politics and social issues. An ardent supporter of gay rights, Joyce was a trailblazer for gay marriage in Florida. Add more context - Joyce loved life and enveloped those around her with love, compassion and her free-spirited nature. While well known for professional expertise, it was her wit, humor, intellect and infectious laugh that created a full life and community. With Joyce, memories were made. A hole is in the hearts of all she touched. Joyce received her undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania and her PhD from the New School for Social Research. She leaves her beloved son, Jacob Wychulis and his wife Carlie of Gainesville, FL, cherished daughter Mariel Frauenheim of Chicago, IL, her adoring sister Carol and husband Joe Sapora of Orlando, FL and her much loved four-legged companion, Millie. Joyce was predeceased by her soul mate and the love of her life, her partner Claudia Asbury. She also leaves her extended family and dear friends to whom she was fiercely devoted.
