Doris Martin

Doris Martin, 85, passed away on May 12, 2023 in Gainesville, peacefully, at her home. Visitation will be held at Forest Meadows on Friday, May 10th at 10:00 a.m. Funeral services will be held at Forest Meadows on May 19, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Jason Crawford, officiating. Doris Martin was born in Starke, Florida to Amelia and W. T. Crawford on April 10, 1938. She was one of seven children, being the second only girl. She met the love of her life at the age of 16, Roy, later marrying in 1957 and having two daughters, Sharon and Debbie. Doris worked as a school bus driver at the Alachua County School Board for over 55 years. She loved kids, period. She would spend her weekends supporting her husband in his racing and holding multiple track records. She would sometimes let "Mean Jean" out when someone would mess with her family or when standing up for something she believed in. She was a Christian and loved the Lord with all her heart. She would spend summer vacations in Tennessee with her grandkids and Roy, going to Dollywood, counting bear and deer in Cade's Cove, picnics with family, bottling spring water, to her favorite getting a "licky", that's an ice cream cone if you didn't know. Her mom nicknamed them that. She loved to joke and pick. Always had a comeback to anything said to her, I promise. And her hair! DON'T TOUCH IT! She would whip you for touching her "set hair". She had many great-grandkids but Kaylin and Lac were the two she raised. She loved to go watch Kaylin ride horses. She was so proud. She always had open arms, welcomed everyone with open arms. She had the biggest heart. She was a clean freak! One thing you better not do is enter her kitchen with dirty hands or wash your hands in her sink. She would whip you with whatever she could grab. Her last five months weren't ideal but she remained positive and wore a smile daily. She remained strong in her faith and believed that God would someday soon heal her. She laughed and joked with family, took silly photos with us kinds, loved the animals, continued to say thank you for all we had done for her. I kept reminding her she was our greatest blessing. She was one in a million. I asked Granny if there was anything she wanted said today and she only said, "She was sorry if she ever hurt anyone" and "I hope they don't remember me as a mean ole hag." She is survived by her daughters, Sharon (Clint) Hamilton and Debra Martin; grandchildren, Tara (Kenneth) Porr and Lance (Nina) Martin; great-grandchildren, Kaylin, Lacy, Emma, Charlee, Nathan, Kolson, and Daylen; and brother, Larry Crawford.
